Hilsman 21st Century After School Program
Parents may sign students up to attend this after school program that offers academic and enrichment support. Bus transportation home is provided.

Hilsman Middle School’s 21st Century Program
We are excited to announce that Hilsman Middle School’s 21st Century Program will start on September 12, 2022! We hope to improve your child’s academics, decision-making skills, and have an improved outlook towards school by providing engaging social-emotional and STEAM-related courses. This year’s course offerings are presented below along with a link to a 21st Century Student Application. Student applications are also available with each grade level’s team chair and in Hilsman’s front office. Completed applications can be turned in to the front office or to Hilsman’s 21st Century Coordinators-Mrs. Dalton and Mrs. Bryant.
The 21st Century program operates Monday-Thursday from 4-6 pm. Free transportation and an afterschool snack are provided. Students who are not picked up by 5:50 will ride the bus home. 21st Century also offers morning tutoring sessions Monday-Thursday from 7-8 am. Participating students must be dropped off at Hilsman to attend the morning sessions. We look forward to your child joining the 21st Century program! Hilsman’s 21st Century Course Offerings
Junior Leadership and Sportsmanship
This course combines social and leadership skills with team sports. Geared to help your child develop as a leader and team player. Students are encouraged to build character, integrity, discipline, and goodwill towards others.
Girls on the Run-Heart and Sole
This girls’ running progam builds confidence, kindness, and reinforces good decision-making and critical thinking. Girls are motivated to set goals and to find inner strength through physical fitness.
Chess Club
Chess Club is all about playing chess. All skill levels are welcome. Discover the board and chess pieces and strategies and tactics that will develop your game. Ready to play?
Science Adventure Club
Science Club students will learn more about our physical and natural world, conduct experiments, and get help with concepts they are learning in class! All levels of scientists are welcome!
iGrow
A mentoring program that equips kids with transformative skills that reduce risk, uncover resiliency, and promote self-sufficiency.
Reading Detective
Become a better reader. Improve your fluency, vocabulary, and language skills. Also, develop good reading habits and engage in literacy activities!
MathCounts
Increase your math skills by engaging in fun, competitive “bee” style math games and challenges. All math levels are welcome.
Orchestra
Improve your musical literacy by engaging in chamber music classes. Enjoy learning and playing music with fellow classmates. Gain music skills that can give you a foundation for music in highschool and college.
Band
Improve your musical talents by engaging in this fun band class. Enjoy learning and playing music with fellow classmates. Gain music skills that can give you a foundation for music in highschool and college.
Nutrition and Ag Science
This course promotes farming and/or greenhouse management. Learn techniques used to cultivate soil and produce plant products.
Daily Homework Sessions
Students work independently on homework and projects. Students may go to individual teachers’ rooms to work on missing work with those teachers.
Morning Mentors 7-8 am
Students work independently on homework and projects. Students may receive tutoring for Mathematics, Science, ELA, and Social Studies.
