What should I do if my child expresses an emotional or mental health need during school closure days?
During the period of school closure, student support staff, including counselors, social workers, nurses, and psychologists, are available for phone and/or email consultation. You can find the email address for your school’s support staff on the school webpage. If your child experiences or expresses symptoms of an emotional or mental health crisis, you should contact the Georgia Crisis and Access Line (GCAL) at 1-800-715-4225. You may also download the MyGCAL app at no cost from the app store. Of course, if you believe that this need is an emergency, contact 911 immediately. -
What should I do if I become aware of a child welfare concern? If you become aware of a concern for a child’s well-being, please contact the Department of Family and Children Services to make a report, 1-855-GA- CHILD. If you believe that a child is in immediate danger, please call 911.

Concrete Jungle - Food Resources
Concrete Jungle is a non-profit that seeks to bridge gaps in our food system by transforming overlooked and underutilized fruit trees and land into a healthy food source for communities in need. Our mission is at the intersection of promoting health outcomes by increasing access to fresh food, reducing food waste, and fighting food insecurity; Concrete Jungle leverages a vast volunteer network to pick produce that would have otherwise have gone to waste from local farms and fruit trees and partners with community-based food pantries to donate the produce and provide nutritional education. Our food distribution partners in Athens include the Neighborhood Leaders of Family Connection-Communities in Schools, Campus Kitchen, the Food Bank of NE Georgia, the Shifa Clinic, and more. To get involved with Concrete Jungle, you can join us at a volunteer event! We post upcoming events on our GivePulse page as well as share them through our facebook group, instagram page, and newsletter. You can also make a donation to support our cause. If you are a fruit tree owner or know of a fruit tree that goes unharvested, you can also add it to our food map or get in contact with Jenny at athens@concrete-jungle.org or 678-756-2425. To date, Concrete Jungle has donated 3,669,822 servings of produce to food insecure residents of North Georgia.
