  • Special Committees

    The Board may, from time to time, create special (ad hoc) committees from its own membership for study and fact-finding. It shall be the responsibility of the president to appoint the Board members to special committees whenever necessary. The president shall outline the duties, responsibilities, and timeline of each committee at the time of appointment.

    Advisory Committees

    The Board of Education recognizes the need for and encourages citizen participation in the decision-making process. Advisory committees may be organized by the Board when needed and appropriate. Membership in each advisory committee will be determined by the Board. Nominations of individuals to committees will be made by Board members and appointments to committees will be made by action of the entire Board. Vacancies occurring on committees for any reason shall be filled as the original appointees were made. Advisory committees to the Board of Education shall report to the Board. The Board shall give each advisory committee its charge and shall instruct each committee as to:

    1. The need and purpose of the committee;
    2. The scope of the committee;
    3. The necessity for holding announced meetings open to the public;
    4. The necessity to present a written/oral report to the Board of Education with majority and minority opinions welcomed; and
    5. A timeline

    Board Representatives to Community and Agency Committees or GSBA Delegates

    If a Board Member is asked to represent the full board on a community committee, the representation must be approved or ratified by the full Board, and that Board Member should regularly report back information about the work of that committee to other Board Members.

    Board Advisory Committee

    The Board Advisory Committee comprises approximately 15 members and meets quarterly with Board members and the Superintendent. The Board Advisory Committee is an Advisory Committee of the Clarke County Board of Education as provided for in Board Policy BBC. The purpose of this committee is to provide an opportunity for members to share input and feedback on timely and relevant topics . Members include teachers, parents and community stakeholders.
