According to the Georgia Department of Education, “the purpose of the program is to provide opportunities for academic enrichment activities during non-school hours or periods when school is not in session, such as before and after school or during the summer recess. 21st CCLC programs offer students a broad array of additional services, programs, and activities designed to complement the regular academic program such as youth development activities, counseling programs, arts, music, physical fitness and wellness, financial literacy, environmental literacy, career, and technical programs. 21st CCLC programs also offer families opportunities for active and meaningful engagement in their child’s education, including opportunities for literacy and related educational development.”
Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) offer students a broad array of services, programs, and activities designed to complement the regular academic program.
Elementary students are served through the Boys & Girls Club locations, and middle school students are served at their middle school.
Activities include youth development activities, counseling programs, arts, music, physical fitness, wellness, financial literacy, environmental literacy, career, and technical programs. 21st CCLC programs also offer families opportunities for active and meaningful engagement in their child’s education, including literacy and related educational development opportunities.
In the Clarke County School District, we have two 21st CCLC grants. Even though we have been awarded the 21st CCLC grant for several years, the grant cycle runs in five (5) year cycles. Consequently, we are in the third year of the five-year grant cycle for the elementary school grant. We are in the second year of the five-year cycle for the middle school grant.
We are fortunate and excited about the opportunity to serve our students through the Nita M. Lowey 21st CCLC grant! We look forward to working with you and your child!
