UGA String Project

  • img For several years, the Music Department at the University of Georgia has offered the UGA String Project to the greater Athens area. Through a collaborative effort, the program is now hosted by the Clarke County School District. The host school is Barrow Elementary School, but registration is open to any student, homeschooled or enrolled at any school in the greater Athens area. New students in grades 3-5 are accepted each fall, no previous experience is required. Continuing students through grade 8 are welcome to participate in the more advanced classes.

String Project students will have the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned by performing with their class in a final concert each semester.

The cost is $5.00 registration fee plus $100.00 per semester for tuition. Clarke County School District students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch are eligible for full tuition waivers and the use of an AthFest provided instrument while enrolled in the University of Georgia String Project. Please register online and pay the $5 registration fee indicating in the comment box that you have filled out the appropriate form with the school district and have been approved for free or reduced-price lunch.

The registration deadline for fall classes is September 1. Please visit the UGA String Project webpage for more information.

Students wishing to stay at school for more than 1 hour after school hours will be placed in the Afterschool Program for their non-instructional time. The cost for the Afterschool Program is an additional $6 per day and the fees are given directly to the school.
