SOARing...at FDES: Learning Beyond the Classroom LSGT Grant
-
In 2018, the Clarke County School District set aside grant funds to distribute to LSGTs to create innovative programs that build the capacity of schools and communities to support the achievement, success, and well-being of children in alignment of one or more of the District's focus areas of literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development.
Grant Budget: $31,544
Fowler Drive will be focusing on numeracy, literacy, and SEL for their innovation. The program focuses on implementing research based practices inside and out of the classroom to improve SEL. Students will have opportunities to visit local businesses and industries where they can learn the needed skills and dispositions to work in these areas. They will be provided opportunities to shadow school and community leaders. The proposal relies heavily on building a strong school community and student professional development. Real world scenarios will be incorporated into literacy and numeracy learning. SMART goals will highlight areas of need and prioritize action. Fowler expects to see a 50% increase in achievement in the areas of literacy and math, as well as increased opportunities for interacting with “community people” and resources.
