Summer Bridge Program for Rising Third Graders LSGT Grant
Whitehead LSGT developed the Summer Bridge Program for Rising Third Graders in 2018 to provide students a high-quality learning opportunity that reduced summer learning loss and bolstered their readiness for the academic demands of third grade. The program was supported by a grant from the district funded by supplemental funds CCSD receives from the state. The free, two-week program focused on instructional quality and provided opportunity for individual attention. The summer bridge program: was voluntary and open to all rising third grade students enrolled at WRES, combined academic instruction with enrichment and recreational activities, incorporated social-emotional learning into lessons through team/community building activities, operated for two weeks, offered small class sizes to facilitate personalized instruction, provided field trip on the last day to offer experiential learning, and included free transportation and lunch.
