Winterville PBIS Staff Retreat LSGT Grant
In 2018, the Clarke County School District set aside grant funds to distribute to LSGTs to create innovative programs that build the capacity of schools and communities to support the achievement, success, and well-being of children in alignment of one or more of the District's focus areas of literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development.
Grant Budget: $7,000
Winterville is focusing on social-emotional development for their innovation. This proposal involves an overnight staff retreat in Dahlonega that incorporates a professional learning opportunity. Teachers will learn how to improve teacher-student relationships, positive behavior supports, and building teachers’ instructional capacity to impact at-risk students. Lessons include the following topics; team building, restorative discipline, team building II, culturally relevant teaching, and teaching students with ADD/ADHD. By training teachers to become more culturally responsive and proactive with student needs, it is hypothesized that student social emotional learning will improve. This program will additionally improve school climate and teacher satisfaction.
