• There are many opportunities to help our school library!

We need volunteers on a regular basis to help maintain the library, shelve and organize books, work to help students find books, and even decorate and continue improving our signage and such.

We also need special events help and "one-shot" help such as setting up and running our Book Fairs in October and mid-March, and helping with Reading Day on March 2nd/Read-Across-America. You have skills and we can find a way to use them to improve our school.

Contact the librarian, Mr. Webber, at webberg@clarke.k12.ga.us for more information or to inquire about an orientation to see if you'd like to help here. Please feel free to leave voicemail at 706-357-5334, ext. 35280.

Many of our volunteers end up helping and volunteering in different ways here at Barnett Shoals. We can direct you to opportunities you will certainly find rewarding.

Volunteers in CCSD are required to complete volunteer information forms with a background check (free). Even if you've done the background check for other schools, you'll need to complete the information form for our Principal's awareness and approval.

Forms are available in our lobby and online (download from here). Just turn them into our receptionist, Mr. Willis, when you visit our school.

DONATIONS and other ways to help the library and our programming:

      - We want your gently used books, especially early childhood books and board books.   We run our own mega-book giveaway just for our Pre-K students at the end of the year (when K-5 students get free books for summer from Books for Keeps).

      - Donate new books to our library!  One time long ago, a student asked that all her birthday gifts be "Meg Cabot" books. Then she donated them all to our school library - it filled a void and we still enjoy Meg Cabot books today!  Ask Mr. Webber or any student if there are any books that we need and don't have, or don't have enough.

      - We take any and all books, magazines, and anything print donations right here. If we can't use them here, we'll pass them along to places that will use them, such as the Athens Tutorial Program.
