Cedar Shoals High School Teacher Jesse Evans receives Better Every Day Award

Our November Better Every Day Award recipient is Jessie Evans.  Mr. Evans, Civics teacher at Cedar Shoals High School, organized a voter registration drive students who were going to be eligible to vote in the recent mid-term elections.   He then coordinated a Vote Together Day in which the students went the Board Of Elections office downtown to take part in early voting and also learn about state and local government functions and roles with local officials and community members leading the discussions.  Mr. Evans made sure the students had time to research all the candidates so they could enter the ballot box as educated voters. His commitment to engaging his students in their education is evident in the way he went above and beyond in this lesson about civic engagement.  This endeavor inspired students at Clarke Central High School to arrange their own outing the following week. We commend Mr. Evans’ enthusiasm and dedication, teachers like Jesse are what makes CCSD Better Every Day.

At the October 11, 2018 Board of Education meeting the Better Every Day Award for members of the CCSD community was announced.   The award will be given monthly to one district employee who embodies our mission of ensuring equity and excellence through the implementation of rigorous standards in a safe and supportive environment for every child.
