CCSD Students Truly Excel in January 2019!
Two Barrow Elementary School Students placed first and second in the State Radon Awareness Poster Contest. Fourth grader Emma Starnes took home second place & first place winner is fifth grader Blake Bernt. Blake’s poster has been forwarded to the national contest. Officials were surprised when they turned the posters over to discover the first and second place winners were from the same school!
Yehyun Hong, seventh grader at Clarke Middle School, was accepted to the Georgia Music Educators Association 2019 All-State Orchestra for middle school cello and Clarke Central High School sophomore, Sophie Caillault, was named to Georgia Music Educators Association 2019 All-State Orchestra for ninth and tenth grade viola. The All State Orchestra is a large ensemble of students selected from the best musicians in Georgia conducted by nationally known clinicians. Students must go through a rigorous audition process in order to attend this highly prestigious event. The students will perform right here in Athens, GA February 28-March 2, 2019.
Jamsen Mendoza, a senior at Clarke Central, received a second nomination in his efforts to gain acceptance into the US Military Academies. This nomination, given by Congressman Jody Hice, is in addition to the nomination secured by Jamsen last spring from Senator Johnny Isakson. Students who attend a US Military Academy commit to serving at least five years in their respective military branch upon graduation. Securing a nomination is a required, and extremely competitive step in the Academy application process!
Elena Gilbertson Hall earned a perfect score on the ACT. In 2017 only 2,076 students out of more than 2,000,000 earned a perfect score on this test, which is used for college admissions. Way to go Elena!
These amazing students are a great example of what makes CCSD Better Every Day!
