CLARKE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION APPROVES HIRING OF PRINCIPAL FOR HILSMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL
The Clarke County Board of Education approved the hiring of Capucina Douglass to fill the position of Principal at Hilsman Middle School at the July 18, 2019 meeting. This is one of seven principal positions that are being filled through a collaboration between district staff and school hiring committees comprised of the LSGT, community members and school staff.
“Ms. Douglass’ track record of school improvement is quite impressive,” said Demond Means, Superintendent of Clarke County Schools. “Her commitment to excellence in leadership and maximizing the potential of all students aligns perfectly with the mission of the Clarke County School District. I look forward to welcoming her to our team.”
Ms. Douglass has been an educator since 2006, having served as Assistant Principal of Grayson High School and Principal of Social Circle Middle School. During her tenure, Social Circle Middle School had a nine-point increase on the CCRPI (College and Career Ready Performance Index) School Report and the highest school improvement increase for the district. In 2017, disciplinary suspensions decreased by 50% at the school. Ms. Douglass has a Bachelor of Science from Post University, a Master of Education from the University of Bridgeport, and a Specialist in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University.
Alps Road Elementary School, Chase Street Elementary School, and Fowler Drive Elementary School have principal vacancies at this time. Each of these schools will begin the year with strong interim leadership as the hiring process for these positions continues.
