BOE Approves Leadership Hires

ReidMajorJamesAt its Thursday, June 2 meeting, the Clarke County Board of Education approved the following leadership hires. Please click the hyperlinks to read the full press release for each hire. 

  • Dr. Melanie James has been named the new principal of Alps Road Elementary School. Dr. James has been employed by CCSD since 2003, when she was hired as a math teacher at Clarke Central High School. After three years in that position, she spent 10 years as assistant principal at Fowler Drive Elementary School and has been assistant principal at Winterville Elementary School since 2016. Since January 2022, she had held the position of interim principal at Winterville.

  • Dr. Angelia Major has been named the new director of Classic City High School. Dr. Major has over 18 years of experience in public education and has been with the Clarke County School District for the last three years — serving first as an assistant principal at Coile Middle School and most recently as an assistant principal at Clarke Central High School. 

  • Veteran law enforcement officer and long-time Clarke County School District Police Department employee Terry Reid has been named the district’s Chief of Police. Chief Reid, who has been the district’s assistant police chief since 2018 and has been with CCSD since 1998, had held the title of interim chief since former chief Mark Sizemore’s retirement in 2021.
