As we approach the start of the 2022-23 school year, the Clarke County School District is providing this update to families regarding district COVID-19 policies and guidelines.

MASK POLICY: 

CCSD is aware that COVID-19 cases are once again on the rise in our area. With that in mind, we strongly encourage staff, students, and visitors to wear masks/face coverings when in school settings that do not allow for social distancing. Schools will have face masks available for those who need one.

Note: Currently, masks are required for Head Start, Early Head Start, and students receiving pre-K services at ELC West and ELC East. Pre-K students who receive services in our elementary schools are not required to wear masks.

We will continue to maintain our district case data dashboard, and case data information for Athens-Clarke County and statewide can be found here. 

CCSD also recommends and encourages students and staff to get fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as, per the CDC, those who are fully vaccinated are at a lower risk of symptomatic or severe infection.

TESTING: 

Through a partnership with the Georgia Department of Public Health, CCSD will continue to offer free COVID testing opportunities in schools this year. Rapid antigen and laboratory-confirmed PCR testing will be available to students, staff, and families at various locations across the district. The testing schedule and instructions to access testing will again be posted on the district website here when finalized.  

VACCINES: 

CCSD will continue to partner with the Clarke County Health Department to offer free vaccines to the CCSD community. Vaccines will be available to anyone who wants one during the months of September and October at each Clarke County school on a rotating basis. First, second, and booster doses will be offered to all who are eligible. Please remember that children of all ages are now eligible to receive the COVID vaccine.

ENVIRONMENTAL MITIGATIONS:

CCSD has also taken measures to improve the air circulation and quality of the air our students and staff breathe while at school. Those measures include: 

• Air-conditioning units have been set on a 24-hour cycle, which allows air to refresh constantly.  
• Vortex ionizers, which clean the air in buildings, have been installed on the air-conditioning units in every CCSD facility. 

GENERAL GUIDANCE:

All CCSD students and staff are asked to follow guidance related to COVID-19 from their health care providers or the Department of Public Health. We ask that you NOT send your child to school if they are sick and exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 or any other contagious virus and/or infection such as influenza, strep throat, stomach virus, etc.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or a new loss of taste or smell.

What to do if your child tests positive for COVID-19:

• Keep your child home and advise your child’s school. The school will provide you with a return-to-school date for your child.
• Your child must stay home for at least five (5) calendar days since symptoms first appeared or five (5) calendar days since the positive test date, if they are not displaying symptoms. (Note: The first day of symptoms or day of a positive test, if they tested positive without having symptoms, is considered day 0.) Please discuss the return-to-school date with your child’s school.

Positive household members should stay in a separate room away from others within their home.

What to do If your child is exposed to COVID-19:

• Following any exposure, it is recommended to monitor for symptoms for a full 10 days and keep your child(ren) home immediately if symptoms do present themselves.
• It is recommended that a person wait until day 5 or later to test following an exposure.

Note: Your child must be 24 hours fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medications, and other symptoms must also improve. 

Al acercarnos al comienzo del año escolar 2022-23, el Distrito Escolar del Condado Clarke provee esta actualización a las familias en relación las pautas y políticas del distrito para COVID-19.

Política sobre la mascarilla:

CCSD está consciente que los casos de COVID-19 están una vez más en aumento en nuestra área. Con esto en mente, alentamos energéticamente a nuestro personal , estudiantes y visitantes usar una mascarilla/cubreboca en lugares escolares que no permitan la sana distancia. Las escuelas tendrán mascarillas disponibles para aquellos que las necesiten. 

Nota: Actualmente, se requiere mascarillas para todos estudiantes de Head Start, Early Head Start, y estudiantes recibiendo servicios de pre-K en el Centro de Aprendizaje Temporal Este y Oeste. Para los estudiantes que reciben servicios de pre-K en nuestras escuelas primarias no se requieren mascarillas.

Continuaremos manteniendo nuestro tablero de datos de casos del distrito, y la información de datos de casos para el condado de Athens-Clarke y en todo el estado se puede encontrar aquí.

CCSD también recomienda y alienta a los estudiantes y a el personal a vacunarse completamente contra COVID-19 ya que según la CDC (Centro de Control para Enfermedades Contagiosas por sus siglas en inglés), aquellos que están completamente vacunados tiene un menor riesgo de infección sintomática o agravada.

PRUEBAS:

A Través de una asociación con el Departamento de Salud Pública de Georgia, CCSD continuará ofreciendo oportunidades gratuitas de pruebas de COVID-19 en las escuela este año. Las pruebas rápidas de antígeno y PCR confirmadas por laboratorio estarán disponibles para los estudiantes, el personal y las familias en varios lugares del distrito. El calendario de pruebas y las instrucciones para acceder a las pruebas se publicará nuevamente en el sitio web del distrito aquí cuando esté disponible.

VACUNAS:

CCSD continuará asociándose con el Departamento de Salud del Condado Clarke para ofrecer vacunas gratuitas a la comunidad de CCSD. Las vacunas estarán disponibles para cualquier persona que desee una durante los meses de septiembre y octubre en cada escuela del condado Clarke de forma rotativa. Se ofrecerán dosis de primera, segunda y refuerzo a todos los que sean elegibles. Recuerde que todos los menores de 18 años son elegibles para recibir la vacuna de COVID.

MITIGACIONES AMBIENTALES:

CCSD también ha tomado medidas para mejorar la circulación del aire y la calidad del aire que respiran nuestros estudiantes y el personal mientras están en la escuela. Esas medidas incluyen:

Las unidades de aire acondicionado se han configurado en un ciclo de 24 horas, lo que permite que el aire se actualice constantemente.

Se han instalado ionizadores Vortex, que limpian el aire de los edificios, en las unidades de aire acondicionado de todas las instalaciones del CCSD.

RECOMENDACIONES GENERALES:

Se les pide a todos los estudiantes y el personal de CCSD que sigan la orientación relacionada con COVID-19 de sus proveedores de salud o el Departamento de Salud Pública. Le pedimos que NO envíe a su hijo(a) a la escuela si está enfermo(a) y presenta síntomas de COVID-19 o cualquier otro virus contagioso y/o infección como influenza, faringitis estreptocócica, virus estomacal, etc.

Los síntomas de COVID-19 incluyen fiebre, escalofríos, tos, dificultad para respirar, fatiga, dolores musculares o corporales, dolor de cabeza, dolor de garganta, congestión o secreción nasal, náuseas, vómitos, diarrea o una nueva pérdida del gusto o el olfato.

Qué hacer si su hijo da positivo por COVID-19:

• Mantenga a su hijo en casa y avise a la escuela de su hijo. La escuela le proporcionará una fecha de regreso a la escuela para su hijo.
• Su hijo(a) debe quedarse en casa durante al menos cinco (5) días calendario desde que aparecieron los primeros síntomas o cinco (5) días calendario desde la fecha de la prueba positiva, si no presenta síntomas. (Nota: el primer día de síntomas o el día de una prueba positiva, si dieron positivo sin tener síntomas, se considera el día 0). Consulte la fecha de regreso a la escuela con la escuela de su hijo(a).

Los miembros positivos del hogar deben permanecer en una habitación separada lejos de los demás dentro de su hogar.

Qué hacer si su hijo está expuesto al COVID-19:

• Después de cualquier exposición, se recomienda controlar los síntomas durante 10 días completos y mantener a su(s) hijo(s) en casa inmediatamente si se presentan síntomas.
• Se recomienda que una persona espere hasta el día 5 o más tarde para realizar la prueba después de una exposición.

Nota: Su hijo(a) debe estar 24 horas sin fiebre sin el uso de medicamentos para reducir la fiebre, y otros síntomas también deben mejorar.
