The Clarke County School District is pleased to announce that Aiden Dowling of Cedar Shoals High School has been named a 2023 Georgia Scholar.
Dowling was one of 154 graduating seniors across the state selected this year for the Georgia Scholar Program by the Georgia Department of Education. The program identifies and honors seniors who have “achieved excellence in school and community life” by carrying exemplary course loads during their four years of high school, performing excellently in all courses, successfully participating in interscholastic events at their schools and in their communities, and assuming leadership roles in extracurricular activities sponsored by their schools. “I extend my sincerest congratulations to the 2023 Georgia Scholars," State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “These 154 Class of 2023 seniors worked hard, became leaders in their schools and communities, and took advantage of the opportunities offered in Georgia public schools. I wish them continued success as they embark on their futures, including plans for after high school and beyond. I know they'll continue to make us all proud."
In addition to his academic achievements, Aiden Dowling is an active member of the local community. Co-founder and leader of the Cedar Shoals Energy Education Team, Aiden and his peers were recognized last year as National and Georgia teams of the year by the NEED (National Energy Education Development) Project. He also has served as a member of the school's award-winning BluePrints Magazine for his entire high school career, currently holding the position of Layout and Design Director as well as Co-Copy Editor. Outside of school, Aiden works weekly at the First Presbyterian Church of Athens as the Sunday Morning Manager.
After graduation this May, Aiden plans to study computer science in college. He is currently awaiting final decisions from several schools before making a final decision on where to attend.
“I feel very honored to receive this recognition,” Aiden said. “Being acknowledged for my academic and extracurricular efforts inspires me to continue giving back to the community that has shown me so much support along the way.”
