  • Emotional/Mental Health Support
What should I do if my child expresses an emotional or mental health need during school closure days?
During the period of school closure, student support staff, including counselors, social workers, nurses, and psychologists, are available for phone and/or email consultation. You can find the email address for your school’s support staff on the school webpage. If your child experiences or expresses symptoms of an emotional or mental health crisis, you should contact the Georgia Crisis and Access Line (GCAL) at 1-800-715-4225. GCAL is a free resource provided to all Georgia Families that aims to provide immediate and qualified mental health assistance and referrals to families. You may also download the MyGCAL app at no cost from the app store. Of course, if you believe that this need is an emergency, contact 911 immediately.

What should I do if I become aware of a child welfare concern? If you become aware of a concern for a child’s well-being, please contact the Department of Family and Children Services to make a report, 1-855-GA- CHILD. If you believe that a child is in immediate danger, please call 911.

Donations/Volunteer Requests

Many parents/guardians have reached out to the district asking if there is a mechanism to donate money to the district to support students and/or volunteer in our efforts.

If we need to request volunteers, we will do so via our website/social media platforms. The Athens Area Community Foundation is collecting donations on our behalf – click here click here to donate online.
