At its Thursday, May 8 meeting, the Clarke County Board of Education approved the hire of Chastity Harris as assistant principal of Barnett Shoals Elementary School for the 2025-26 school year. Ms. Harris, who currently serves as the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Implementation Specialist at Barnett Shoals, will assume her new role effective July 1, 2025.

In her current role, Ms. Harris has developed and monitored academic and behavioral intervention plans for BSES, which has included the creation of data-driven intervention groups and training ELT intervention teachers in the effective use of instructional materials. She also serves as the school’s Leader in Me Lighthouse Coordinator and is a member of the school’s LSGT.

Ms. Harris joined Barnett Shoals in 2013, where she has worked as a PBIS Coach and Special Education Team Leader. She left for a brief stint to work as a Special Education Program Specialist for Richmond County Schools before returning to Athens. Ms. Harris has been a valuable member of the school’s leadership team and served as Summer School Principal for that site in 2024.

She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia, two master’s degrees from Nova Southwestern University and Georgia College and State University, and a specialist’s degree from Georgia College and State University.
