Principal Appreciation Month graphic honoring Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary School Principal O’Marr Curry. Curry is pictured smiling in a navy suit against a blue school-themed background. The graphic features the six OAES den mascots and a message thanking him for his sacrifice, commitment, modeling of the 8 Habits, and leadership within the OAES school community.
Today we’re celebrating the people who keep Oglethorpe running, looking good, and feeling like home — our amazing custodians!

Our custodians do so much more than clean our school. They notice the things most of us walk right past. They fix, straighten, haul, scrub, organize, and somehow manage to keep up with the daily chaos that comes with 700+ people moving through a building all day long.

And they do it with heart.

They help make our classrooms feel welcoming, our hallways feel cared for, and our school a place where Wildcats can learn, grow, and feel safe. They’re problem-solvers, helpers, and often the first people to jump in when something needs to get done.

So today, we’re saying a big THANK YOU to our custodians. We see you. We appreciate you. And Oglethorpe simply wouldn’t be the same without you.

Happy Custodian Appreciation Day! We’re so lucky to have you on our Wildcat team.

Good morning,

We are experiencing an issue with our HVAC system resulting in no A/C in multiple parts of the building. We are in contact with plant services to correct this issue.

We are so proud to celebrate Ms. Erica Taylor as our 2026 Support Person of the Year! Ms. Erica walks our hallways every day, keeping OAES beautiful, organized, and cared for. But she does so much more than take care of our building. She notices the little things. She takes the time to make people feel seen. And somehow, she has a way of making our school feel a little more like home. Just look at her cart. It is covered with thank-you letters, drawings, and little reminders of just how much our students love her. These are from Wildcats who can’t imagine their school day without Ms. Erica in it. And when some of our OAES graduates heard that Ms. Erica had been named SPOTY, their faces lit up with immediate recognition. They knew exactly who she was and exactly why she deserved it. Congratulations, Ms. Erica! OAES is a better place because you are here, and we are so happy to celebrate you. #OAES #OneDreamOneTeam #SupportPersonOfTheYear #Wildcats #CCSD

We are so proud to celebrate Ms. Jailenne Parrott as our 2026-2027 Teacher of the Year! Jailenne has a gift for making sure our youngest Wildcats are never an afterthought. She notices the things that can easily be missed when you work with Pre-K students, and she speaks up to make sure they are included in the life of our school and have the same opportunities as everyone else. She believes in her students, and she makes sure they know they belong. She brings that same thoughtfulness to her work with colleagues, listening to different perspectives, sharing her own, and always bringing the conversation back to what is best for kids. Perhaps the best way to describe Jailenne is this: she asks for a lot, but never for herself. When her students need something, she makes the case, finds a solution, and keeps working until they get what they need. Congratulations, Ms. Parrott! We are so fortunate to have you at OAES, and we are thrilled to celebrate you as our 2026-2027 Teacher of the Year. #OAES #ChangeStartsWithMe #TeacherOfTheYear #Wildcats #CCSD

It’s time to celebrate some pretty incredible people at Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary!

We are so proud to introduce our **2026–2027 Teacher of the Year and Support Professional of the Year nominees.** These are the people who show up every day and make OAES better — for our students, for their colleagues, and for our families.

Our Teacher of the Year nominees are educators who bring knowledge, creativity, and heart to their work. They challenge and encourage their students, build strong relationships, collaborate with others, and never stop learning themselves. They are the teachers who make learning happen in meaningful ways, both inside and outside the classroom.

Our Support Professional nominees are just as deserving of celebration. They are the people who step in, pitch in, solve problems, support our students and staff, and help keep this place moving every single day. So much of what makes a school great happens because of people working behind the scenes, and we are incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful team at OAES.

We are grateful for **every single one of these nominees** and the countless ways they contribute to our Wildcat family. Please take a moment to look through their faces, learn their names, and celebrate them with us. They each deserve to know how much they are appreciated.

We are lucky to work with you. Go Wildcats!

We’re back, Wildcats! There is nothing quite like the excitement of the first day of school. Seeing smiling faces walk through our doors, hearing friends reconnect, and watching classrooms come to life again is the best way to kick off a new year. We’ve been counting down the days, and we’re so happy to have our Wildcats back where they belong. We can’t wait to learn, laugh, grow, and make memories together. Here’s to an incredible school year. Let’s make it the best one yet! Change starts with ME!

💙🩺 Today we celebrate the incredible heart of our school — Nurse Laurie! 🩺💙

School Nurse Appreciation Day gives us the perfect opportunity to recognize someone who cares for our Wildcats with endless kindness, patience, and compassion each and every day. Nurse Laurie brings not only incredible medical expertise to Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary, but also a calming presence, a listening ear, and a heart that makes students and staff alike feel safe and cared for.

Whether she’s comforting a nervous student, helping a sick Wildcat feel better, or jumping into action when someone needs her most, she does it all with grace and genuine love for our community. Her impact reaches far beyond the clinic walls, and we are so lucky to have her as part of our Wildcat family.

Thank you, Nurse Laurie, for the countless ways you care for us all. We appreciate you more than words can say! 💛🐾

💙💛 Relay for Life 2026 💛💙

What an incredible night for our OAES Relay for Life team! With this year’s theme, *Driving Out Cancer,” our school community came together to show that when we unite, we can help push cancer further and further away.

We are proud to share that OAES was recognized as a Silver Team, raising over $3,500 for the American Cancer Society!

Thank you to everyone who donated, participated, and supported our team. Every dollar raised helps fuel hope, research, and support for those impacted by cancer.
