Ms. Seger has been at Timothy Road for six years, including the last four as a Pre-K lead teacher. A graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Early Childhood Education, her teaching career spans back to 1992, when she started in Pre-K in Greene County. After four years there, she taught for six years in Barrow County in pre-K and second grade and later kindergarten at Colham Ferry Elementary in Oconee County. It was during that time she learned she was expecting her second child.
“I was incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to stay home and raise my two children for 18 years,” says Ms. Seger. “Being a mother was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and those years taught me lessons about patience, compassion, encouragement, and unconditional love that continue to shape the teacher I am today.”

When her children became more independent, Ms. Seger returned to the classroom in 2020 at Timothy Road, where she started as a paraprofessional while renewing her teaching certificate before moving into the pre-K lead teacher role.

“Education has always been a meaningful part of my life,” says Ms. Seger. “Both of my parents and two of my older sisters are educators, so I grew up surrounded by people who were passionate about teaching and making a difference in the lives of their students. Their dedication and influence inspired me to pursue a career in education and instilled in me a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of children.”

Ms. Seger’s family continues to be her greatest source of joy, including her son, Jake (and daughter-in-law, Erica), daughter, Conerly, and “the most wonderful 9-month-old granddaughter, Oaklynn.” Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, cooking, and taking walks with her dog or grand-dog.
Ms. Seger says the opportunity to build relationships and watch them grow is what she loves the most about teaching.

“I cherish the time I spend with each child who enters my classroom, and I am deeply grateful that parents trust me to care for their children, nurture their confidence, and help them flourish through love, encouragement, and guidance,” she says. “One of my favorite things about Timothy Road Elementary is the incredible people I have the privilege of working alongside. I am thankful to be part of a school community where educators support one another, work together, and share a genuine commitment to helping every child succeed. After so many years in education, I am still grateful for the opportunity to come to school each day and make a difference in the lives of young children.”

Ms. Jones is in her fifth year with CCSD, fourth at Timothy Road and seventh in education overall, counting her days as a substitute teacher with ESS. She’s a proud product of CCSD and counts Dorsey Stroup, Hattie Lawson, Dr. Robbie Hooker, and Dr. Melanie James as her key influences “who sparked that fire” for her to pursue a career in education.

“My biggest ‘why’ is my son,” says Ms. Jones. “Navigating his different abilities showed me where my heart belongs, starting when I volunteered for the Special Olympics in high school. My favorite part of the job is reaching my babies outside the box, dishing out hugs for whoever needs it, and making those around me have laughing moments. As Rita Pierson said, 'every child deserves a champion,' and I strive to be that champion daily. "

Ms. Jones is herself a lifelong learner and is currently pursuing dual certification in General and Special Education – because, as she puts it, “one degree wasn’t ambitious enough!”

Congratulations to Felicia Barrett, behavior interventionist and After-school Program coordinator at Timothy Road Elementary School, on being named CCSD's October Employee of the Month!

Ms. Barrett was nominated by a parent who praised her not only for always having the children's best interests at heart and going above and beyond to support them, but also for the life-saving measures she took recently at the school when a student began choking on their food in the cafeteria.

Ms. Barrett was surprised at school this morning with the award by Interim Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Scott and will be recognized Thursday night at the monthly Board of Education meeting!
