Jennifer Scott

At its May 8, 2025, meeting, the Clarke County Board of Education voted to appoint Dr. Jennifer Scott as Interim Superintendent of the Clarke County School District. This interim appointment is to replace Dr. Robbie Hooker, who recently announced his retirement effective June 30, 2025.

Over the next year, the Board will conduct a rigorous search to fill the Superintendent position on a permanent basis. More information about the search process will be shared as it becomes available.

“Dr. Scott has been an integral part of the district leadership team, working alongside Dr. Hooker over the past two and a half years to move our district forward,” said Dr. Mumbi Anderson, BOE President. “The Board is confident that Dr. Scott is the person to lead the district during this transition period, and we look forward to seeing continued growth  from our students and schools under her leadership.”

Dr. Scott, who has served as Deputy Superintendent of Academics and Student Support since March 2023, is a long-time member of the CCSD family, having joined the district in 1998 as a teacher at Timothy Road Elementary School following two years at Colbert Elementary in Madison County. She later became assistant principal at TRES in 2007 before moving across town to Barnett Shoals Elementary School, where she was principal from 2011-2019. While at Barnett Shoals, she provided instructional leadership that led to a steady and consistent increase in student performance, resulting  in a 13-point rise in the school’s CCRPI rating over a three-year period. She also fostered community partnerships aimed at supporting the academic and social needs of her school community.

Since joining the District Office in 2019, Dr. Scott has continued to utilize her strengths in building leadership capacity and fostering community partnerships. From 2019-2022, she was one of the district’s Executive Directors of Leadership Development, a role in which she supervised and promoted the professional growth and development of principals at seven of the district’s 14 elementary schools. She was promoted to Chief of Student and Family Support in August 2022 and then became Deputy Superintendent when her role was merged with that of the former Chief Academic Officer.

During her tenure as Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Scott has been at the forefront of the district’s increased intensive focus on shifting the district from a balanced literacy approach to a structured literacy approach. Her work has focused on spotlighting literacy as a priority across all schools in CCSD as well as throughout the Athens-Clarke County community. She has also led the charge in supporting leader development to address school culture and climate concerns which led to increased PBIS Climate Star ratings across the district.

“It is an honor to serve as the Interim Superintendent of the Clarke County School District. I am grateful for the trust placed in me and excited to continue the work that is outlined in our Strategic Plan and set in motion by Dr. Hooker,” said Dr. Scott. “ It is my sincere hope that during my tenure as interim my service to the students, staff, and families of CCSD will exemplify the energy, focus, and commitment I am prepared to deliver and execute long term if selected as the next superintendent.”

Dr. Scott holds a bachelor’s degree in Speech Communications, a master’s in Early Childhood Education, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership, all from the University of Georgia. She is married to native Athenian Larry Scott, and together they have two sons, Tre and Jenson.
