💙🩺 Today we celebrate the incredible heart of our school — Nurse Laurie! 🩺💙

School Nurse Appreciation Day gives us the perfect opportunity to recognize someone who cares for our Wildcats with endless kindness, patience, and compassion each and every day. Nurse Laurie brings not only incredible medical expertise to Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary, but also a calming presence, a listening ear, and a heart that makes students and staff alike feel safe and cared for.

Whether she’s comforting a nervous student, helping a sick Wildcat feel better, or jumping into action when someone needs her most, she does it all with grace and genuine love for our community. Her impact reaches far beyond the clinic walls, and we are so lucky to have her as part of our Wildcat family.

Thank you, Nurse Laurie, for the countless ways you care for us all. We appreciate you more than words can say! 💛🐾

🐾 THE DENS HAVE BEEN DECIDED! 🐾 The energy in the gym last week was absolutely ELECTRIC! ⚡️ If you heard music blasting and felt the ground shaking, that was just us celebrating our 2026 House Den Sorting Ceremony! 🕺💃 As we dive deeper into our Leader in Me journey, every Wildcat is now part of a "House"—a smaller family within our school where they’ll build leadership skills, earn points for character, and find their squad. Our students chose their destiny by picking mystery wristbands that sorted them into one of our six fierce dens: 💛 Yellow Cheetahs 💜 Purple Lions ❤️ Red Tigers 💚 Green Leopards 🖤 Black Panthers 💙 Blue Jaguars It wasn't just a ceremony; it was a massive dance party to kick off a brand-new chapter of school spirit! 🎶✨ We are so proud of our leaders and can't wait to see which House takes the lead this term! 📣 PARENTS: WHICH HOUSE ARE YOU REPPING? 🦁🐆🐅 . . . #WildcatSocial #LeaderInMe #HouseSystem #SortingCeremony #SchoolSpirit #BlueAndGold #WildcatPride #DenLife

They are problem-solvers, encouragers, fixers, and protectors. They keep our hallways safe, our classrooms welcoming, and they do it all with smiles that brighten every Wildcat’s day. More than just keeping OAES beautiful, they model what it means to serve with pride, integrity, and care. 📬🦖 A very special thank you to Dr. Maurice Snook for generously loaning part of his stamp collection to our library! Right now, our Wildcats are enjoying a dinosaur-themed display featuring stamps from across the globe and throughout history. Stamp collecting—philately—may seem like a small hobby, but it’s actually a window into history, art, culture, and storytelling. Through Dr. Snook’s dinosaur stamps, our students are not only marveling at prehistoric creatures, they’re also learning how countries commemorate discoveries, celebrate science, and share culture through these miniature works of art. As you can see, even our littlest Wildcats are captivated. Thank you, Dr. Snook, for sparking curiosity and helping us explore the world (and prehistoric past!) through philately. 🐾✨ 📚 Come check out these stamps at the Book Fair, this week and next!

HISTORY IN THE MAKING!

The Wildcats stormed the court last night and captured our first-ever volleyball victory, taking down Barrow in a match we’ll never forget. 🏐🔥

Kinley poured in 18 points, but it was the grit, hustle, and teamwork from every Wildcat that sealed the win. None of it would’ve been possible without the leadership of Coach Camille and Coach Arellano, who’ve been building this team from the ground up.

And this is just the beginning — the first W is in the books, and the future is wide open. 💙💪

📣 Next up: come cheer us on as we take on Burks, Wednesday, October 1st at 5:30 in the CCSD Gym!

🧪✨ Today, Oglethorpe had the joy of hosting Dr. Maurice Snook, a retired chemist who wowed our Wildcats with his magical experiments! Students were treated to a science lesson like no other—full of shrieks, gasps, and wide-eyed wonder as Dr. Snook brought the fundamental laws of chemistry to life right before their eyes. From start to finish, our Wildcats were on the edge of their seats, discovering just how amazing science can be when we play with the building blocks of our world. Dr. Snook is truly an Athens treasure, and we feel so lucky to have shared this unforgettable day with him. Thank you, Dr. Snook, for sparking curiosity and joy in our young scientists! 💛💙
