Graduation Ceremony Weather Contingency Plans

May 2, 2024

CCSD today announced weather contingency plans for the upcoming graduation ceremonies at Cedar Shoals and Clarke Central high schools.

As previously announced, the Cedar Shoals ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, May 23, at Waters-Wilkins Stadium, and the Clarke Central ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, May 24, at Billy Henderson Stadium. Contingencies are as follows:

  • In the event of inclement weather on the morning of the ceremonies, the ceremonies will be delayed until 8 p.m. on the same day at the same location.
  • If on May 16, inclement weather is predicted for the entire day of the ceremonies, rehearsals and the ceremonies will be moved to The Classic Center, 300 North Thomas St. The ceremonies will still be held at 9 a.m. on their originally scheduled date, and rehearsals would be at the same time as previously announced. Due to the limited seating capacity of The Classic Center, graduates will be issued four (4) tickets for guests to attend the ceremony. Those tickets will be issued at the graduation rehearsals.

These plans were carefully developed following a review by the district of all contingency options. Due to the University of Georgia’s Stegeman Coliseum being unavailable due to construction and seating limitations at the schools’ indoor facilities, The Classic Center was determined to be the most viable option to accommodate as many guests as possible this year.

The district will make a final determination on the location of the ceremonies a week in advance to allow for proper logistical planning and notice to graduates and their families. Official updates will be communicated on the CCSD website at www.clarke.k12.ga.us and the district Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) pages and to families by the schools and the district through the mass notification email and text system.

Classic City High School’s ceremony remains scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday, May 23, in the Vernon Payne Meeting Hall at the District Office.

Each school will communicate additional details about the ceremonies and rehearsals with their families.

We look forward to celebrating with the Class of 2024!
