Today is also National Grandparents' Day! This day has been celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day every year following a proclamation by President Jimmy Carter in 1978. CCSD thanks all of the grandparents in our community and the roles they play in encouraging our students and supporting their education.
It was a BLAST on Friday as Howard B. Stroud Elementary School celebrated their Attendance Rally! Football players, cheerleaders, band members, and additional students from Cedar Shoals High School came to cheer on these Superstars! Dancing, celebrating, and cheering with excitement for attending school, these Superstars were bringing the energy during Attendance Awareness Month! Thank you to the wonderful students from Cedar Shoals for visiting Stroud on Friday!

PASSPORT TO PRODUCE
On Friday, the Marigold Collective visited Winterville Elementary School to bring the farmers market to Winnerbee first graders!
Students were able to see, touch, and taste locally grown organic products from our community to bolster their learning by being exposed to budgeting, the nutritional benefits of eating local produce, and hands-on activities.
This visit was helped by a $2,500 grant awarded to the Marigold Collective from Wholesome Wave Georgia as part of the Passport to Produce program, with the primary purpose of distributing more benefits to our community and raise awareness of local farmers markets, such as the Marigold Farmers Market in Winterville! Thank you so much to Wholesome Wave Georgia for making this visit possible and a special thank you to Athens Orchard for visiting our Winterville Elementary students!
If you would like to see more of Athens Orchard and the Marigold Collective, please visit the Marigold Farmers Market, held every Monday and Saturday at Pittard Park, 115 Parkview Road, in Winterville!

Thank you to Executive Director Catherine Neace of the Foundation for Excellence in Public Education in Clarke County for stopping by Gaines Elementary School this afternoon to surprise teacher Kylie Noble with the Charlotte Brown Chair for Teachers of Special Education award! The FFE originally planned to present this award to Ms. Noble on July 26 when the organization's other 2024 Teaching and Staff awards were announced, but Ms. Noble was (just a little bit) preoccupied that day as she was preparing to welcome her baby daughter into the world. The baby was born July 27, and she and mom are at home and doing well.
