🎭🐾 Third Grade Takes UGA! 🐾🎭 Our third-grade Wildcats had an amazing day on the University of Georgia campus, diving into the arts on an unforgettable field trip! Students watched a live performance by the talented UGA Children’s Theater Troupe—made up of UGA students bringing stories to life. 🌟 The program tied perfectly into what our Wildcats are learning in class, from exploring fables and mythology to understanding the cultural and historical significance of theater. Seeing these concepts come to life on stage was both exciting and inspiring! A huge THANK YOU to UGA for this fantastic opportunity and for making learning so engaging and fun. 🍂🌾 Harvesting Gratitude at Oglethorpe! 🌾🍂 Our Gratitude Wall, “Harvesting Gratitude,” is overflowing with appreciation, just like a bountiful cornucopia! 🧡🍎🍇 From staff to students, we’ve all shared what we’re thankful for, and it’s heartwarming to see the abundance of gratitude that fills our school community. As we prepare for Thanksgiving, we’re reminded of how our collective efforts truly create something amazing. Just like a harvest requires the work of many hands, our gratitude grows when we come together and synergize—working as one team to support and lift each other up. 🌟 This is a perfect reflection of Leader in Me Habit 6: Synergize—celebrating our differences and combining our strengths to achieve greater things together. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to this beautiful display! We’re thankful for YOU! 🙌💙 #GratitudeWall #HarvestingGratitude #Synergize #OneDreamOneTeam #LeaderInMe #Thanksgiving #BountifulHarvest

Our second graders LOVE making word chains after guided reading groups! 📝✨ It’s Science of Reading in action—and it’s as fun as it is powerful! 🚀 Here’s the magic: Word chains (or word ladders) help students connect the sounds they hear to the letters they see. This process, called orthographic mapping, is essential for learning to read and write. By changing just one sound at a time (like sat → sit → pit → pat), students practice blending, segmenting, and manipulating sounds, which strengthens their decoding and spelling skills. 🧠💡 Why does this matter? When kids master the connection between speech sounds and their letter representations, they unlock thousands of words—no guessing needed! 🏆 This hands-on, interactive practice solidifies speech-to-print connections, creating confident, independent readers. How wonderful is that?! 🎉 #ScienceOfReading #WordChains #BuildingReaders #SpeechToPrint #WildcatsRead #2ndGradeRocks

Donations are accepted in the front office through November 15th. Items needed include scarves, gloves, socks, hand sanitizer, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bottled water, and individually wrapped snacks. It’s also a friendly competition—first place wins a pizza party, second place wins popcorn, and third place gets cookies! 📚🗳️ A Special Civic Learning Day with Dr. Shane Singh! 🗳️📚 Today, our 4th and 5th graders had the incredible opportunity to learn about electoral systems from Dr. Shane Singh, Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at UGA—and one of our own Oglethorpe dads! With tomorrow’s election approaching, this was a perfect moment for our Wildcats to deepen their understanding of how different electoral systems shape democratic decisions worldwide. Dr. Singh introduced students to three key voting systems: first-past-the-post, runoff voting, and proportional representation. Through a creative twist, students cast votes for their favorite ice cream flavor under each system, comparing the outcomes and examining how the system influenced the results. They explored benefits and challenges unique to each structure, sparking thoughtful discussions on fairness, representation, and the many ways votes can be counted. We were beyond impressed with the critical thinking our Wildcats displayed and the insightful questions they raised. Their curiosity and engagement reminded us of the importance of understanding democracy and how each of us can play a role in shaping the communities we’re part of. Thank you, Dr. Singh, for inspiring our young leaders! Let’s keep thinking big, Wildcats! 🌟 #CivicLearning #FutureLeaders #LeadershipInAction #ThinkWinWin
