šŸ“ššŸ—³ļø A Special Civic Learning Day with Dr. Shane Singh! šŸ—³ļøšŸ“š Today, our 4th and 5th graders had the incredible opportunity to learn about electoral systems from Dr. Shane Singh, Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at UGA—and one of our own Oglethorpe dads! With tomorrow’s election approaching, this was a perfect moment for our Wildcats to deepen their understanding of how different electoral systems shape democratic decisions worldwide. Dr. Singh introduced students to three key voting systems: first-past-the-post, runoff voting, and proportional representation. Through a creative twist, students cast votes for their favorite ice cream flavor under each system, comparing the outcomes and examining how the system influenced the results. They explored benefits and challenges unique to each structure, sparking thoughtful discussions on fairness, representation, and the many ways votes can be counted. We were beyond impressed with the critical thinking our Wildcats displayed and the insightful questions they raised. Their curiosity and engagement reminded us of the importance of understanding democracy and how each of us can play a role in shaping the communities we’re part of. Thank you, Dr. Singh, for inspiring our young leaders! Let’s keep thinking big, Wildcats! 🌟 #CivicLearning #FutureLeaders #LeadershipInAction #ThinkWinWin
