At its Thursday, May 9 meeting, the Clarke County Board of Education approved the hire of Jessie Draper as the new director of Classic City High School and the promotion of Timothy Road Elementary instructional coach Tamika Brown to be the school’s new assistant principal. Both appointments will be effective on July 1. 

Ms. Draper replaces former Classic City director Dr. Angelia Major, who accepted a position with another school district earlier this year. Ms. Brown will take over for current TRES assistant principal Amy Hill, who is retiring at the end of this school year. 

Ms. Draper brings two decades of educational experience — as a classroom teacher and administrator — to her new position at Classic City, where she will be the top administrator. She was previously with the Clarke County School District from 2014 to 2017 at Cedar Shoals High School, where she served as an academic support specialist, instructional coach, response-to-intervention coordinator, and flexible learning program coordinator. She has been an assistant principal at Greene County High School since July 2017 and has seven years of combined experience as a high school science teacher at Milton, Stephenson, and Warner Robins high schools in Georgia. 

Ms. Draper holds bachelor, master, and education specialist degrees in Science Education, all from the University of Georgia.

Ms. Brown has two decades of elementary education experience and has been a faculty member at Timothy Road since 2014. In her current role as an instructional coach, she collaborates with teachers in grades K-2 in implementing effective educational programs through data-driven decisions. 

“I’m excited to embark on a journey of growth and learning as I step into the role of assistant principal at the great Timothy Road Elementary School,” said Ms. Brown. “It’s an honor to continue to collaborate with the dedicated staff, students, and families in fostering a nurturing environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.” 

Ms. Brown was a classroom teacher in kindergarten, second, and fourth grades at Bay Creek Elementary in Walton County before joining Timothy Road. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, an education specialist degree in Childhood Social Behavior from the University of Georgia, and a masters in Early Childhood Education from Piedmont College.
