Fowler Drive Elementary School hosted their Fowler Fresh Farmer's Market yesterday in collaboration with the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia as well as Georgia Power, who provided energy-efficiency kits for families.
These kits help save families money, and the additional food and necessary items given at the farmers market provided assistance to families in our community!
Thank you to all the volunteers, including those of the Food Bank and Georgia Power for helping setup this wonderful event and by helping families carry items throughout the line and to their cars!
Be on the lookout for the next Fowler Fresh events by following Fowler Drive Elementary School on their respective social media platforms!

CONGRATULATIONS to Mr. Pierce Woodson, advanced manufacturing and welding instructor at the Athens Community Career Academy, for being named CCSD's Employee of the Month for September! Mr. Woodson was nominated by two of his former students who both praised him for being a teacher they could always trust and talk to about anything. "It seems like he could always build us up even when we were at our lowest," one said. "I love this man!"
ACCA director Reginald Thomas described Mr. Woodson as one of the most well-liked teachers at the academy, one who has earned a reputation for being a favorite among current students and alumni, who often seek him out when they return for a visit. "His positive impact extends beyond the classroom, as he consistently goes above and beyond to contribute meaningfully to the school environment," said Mr. Thomas.
Mr. Woodson was surprised with the award today by Superintendent Dr. Robbie Hooker and will be recognized further this Thursday night at the Board of Education meeting.
THANK YOU to all in the community who sent in so many great nominations over the past month, many of which are still up for consideration! As a reminder, you may nominate any full-time CCSD employee who has at least one year of service in the district. Go to bit.ly/CCEmployeeAward to get started!

September is Attendance Awareness Month! Students being present at school means students preparing for success in and out of the classroom. Today, we join the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in celebrating today as International Literacy Day. At CCSD, we recognize literacy as the cornerstone of our mission to create educational journeys that empower all students to fulfill their potential, and we join UNESCO in the belief that global literacy has the potential to promote mutual understanding, social cohesion, inclusion, and peace around the world.

Today is also National Grandparents' Day! This day has been celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day every year following a proclamation by President Jimmy Carter in 1978. CCSD thanks all of the grandparents in our community and the roles they play in encouraging our students and supporting their education.

It was a BLAST on Friday as Howard B. Stroud Elementary School celebrated their Attendance Rally! Football players, cheerleaders, band members, and additional students from Cedar Shoals High School came to cheer on these Superstars! Dancing, celebrating, and cheering with excitement for attending school, these Superstars were bringing the energy during Attendance Awareness Month! Thank you to the wonderful students from Cedar Shoals for visiting Stroud on Friday!

Yesterday afternoon, the University of Georgia's Upward Bound program visited the Athens Community Career Academy!

Upward Bound serves high school students from certain income based, and first-generation families and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree. Upward Bound’s goal is to increase the number of participants who completed secondary education and enrolled in and graduated from institutions of postsecondary education.

PASSPORT TO PRODUCE
On Friday, the Marigold Collective visited Winterville Elementary School to bring the farmers market to Winnerbee first graders!
Students were able to see, touch, and taste locally grown organic products from our community to bolster their learning by being exposed to budgeting, the nutritional benefits of eating local produce, and hands-on activities.
This visit was helped by a $2,500 grant awarded to the Marigold Collective from Wholesome Wave Georgia as part of the Passport to Produce program, with the primary purpose of distributing more benefits to our community and raise awareness of local farmers markets, such as the Marigold Farmers Market in Winterville! Thank you so much to Wholesome Wave Georgia for making this visit possible and a special thank you to Athens Orchard for visiting our Winterville Elementary students!
If you would like to see more of Athens Orchard and the Marigold Collective, please visit the Marigold Farmers Market, held every Monday and Saturday at Pittard Park, 115 Parkview Road, in Winterville!
