During the 2022-23 school year, CCSD provided opportunities for fourth- and fifth-grade students to compete on school-based basketball and soccer teams at their respective elementary schools. These initial sports programs have been successful and provided the foundation to offer more opportunities for youth sports programming.

CCSD will build upon the success of the basketball and soccer programs and provide the following sports programs for the youth of Clarke County during the 2023-24 school year as part of the Youth Development Initiative.

    • Basketball: CCSD will continue its elementary school-based basketball league for fourth- and fifth-graders.  Eleven of our schools are participating this season, fielding both boys and girls teams.  This is almost double the participation from the 2022-2023 year. Sixth-grade boys and girls teams will be added for each middle school. Each middle school will have a boys' and a girls' sixth-grade team through the Community Youth and Development Organization.
    • Cross Country: Sixth-grade students will be allowed to try out for their middle school team in the fall.
    • Football and Cheerleading: The Gladiator Youth Football and Jaguar Youth Football programs will provide football and cheerleading opportunities for CCSD students. The teams will compete in the North Georgia Youth Football Association (NGYFA). Participation will be determined by the students' high school attendance zone. Each organization will offer 7U, 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, and seventh-grade football teams and cheer squads. Fundamental and skills development camps will be offered throughout the year.
    • Soccer: CCSD will continue its elementary school-based soccer league for fourth- and fifth-graders. Sixth-grade students will be allowed to try out for their middle school soccer team in the spring. Fundamental and skills development camps will be offered throughout the year.
    • Track and Field: Sixth-grade students will be allowed to try out for their middle school team in the spring. Training sessions, practices, and meets for athletes in grades 4-6 will be held at each high school track and field facility.
    • Volleyball: Sixth-grade students will be allowed to try out for their middle school team in the fall. Training sessions, practices, and matches for players in grades 4-6 will be held at each high school gym.
