Summer Meals Information:

  • This summer, the Clarke County School Nutrition program will provide meals for students and our community in the following ways:

    • Summer School: Select schools in Clarke County will operate summer school programs.  Students who attend summer school will be provided the opportunity to eat both breakfast and lunch during the school day at no cost.  Summer school for all sites begins on Monday, June 3rd and ends on Tuesday, June 18th.  Please note that summer school only operates Monday - Thursday.  Both Monday, June 17th and Tuesday, June 18th have been reserved for testing.  The Clarke County School District will be closed on Wednesday, June 19th in observance of Juneteenth.  Summer school sites will only operate for 10 days in June.

    • Summer Camp Lunch Service: We will partner with local camps offered by some local churches, the YMCA, the YWCO, and Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services to provide lunch for their campers on Monday - Friday in June.  Check with your child's camp to see if lunch will be provided at no cost.

    • Open Summer School Sites: Starting on Monday, June 3rd, six schools--Barnett Shoals, Howard B. Stroud, Oglethorpe, Timothy Road, Burney Harris Lyons Middle, and Hilsman Middle--will be open for lunch on Monday - Thursday from 11:30am - 12:30pm.  Children up to age 18 are able to come cool off in the air-conditioned school cafeteria and enjoy a free school lunch.  Parents and guardians can eat with us too!  An adult lunch meal costs $4.50.  Please have exact change.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • My student is allergic to peanuts, so what can my student have when PBJs are on the summer menu?

    Posted by:

This is a great question! During the school year, we usually have an entree that does not contain peanuts, which allows your student to make a safe and healthy choice at lunch.  The summer menu is more streamlined because we are operating with fewer team members, so if you want your student to receive a meal accommodation, then you need to submit one to your child's summer school site.  The form that is used by the school nutrition program can be found here: https://www.clarke.k12.ga.us/Page/2227

  • In the past, you have opened sites to the public where children under 18 can eat for free?

    Posted by:

Yes!  We will open the six of the summer school sites to the public.   Starting on Monday, June 3rd, children 18 and under, along with those under 21 with special needs, can enjoy a delicious lunch meal on Monday - Thursday from 11:30am - 12:00pm.  There is no registration required.  And, the children do not have to be enrolled in Clarke County School District to be eligible for these meals!

  • My child is attending summer school, do I need to pack lunch?

You are always welcome to send meals with your students when they come to school; however, just like during the normal academic year, we will be providing both breakfast and lunch meals to students enrolled in summer programs at our schools.  The menu is simpler than during the school year, but your student will still have a choice of entree, fruit and vegetable sides as well as milk each day.
