Summer Meals Information:

  • This summer, the Clarke County School Nutrition program will provide meals to students and our community in three ways:

    • Summer School: Eight schools in Clarke County will operate summer school programs.  Students who attend summer school will be provided the opportunity to eat both breakfast and lunch during the school day at no cost.  Summer school for all levels begins on Monday, June 3rd.  Elementary and middle school summer school will end on Thursday, June 27th, and due to testing, high school summer school will likely end on Wednesday, July 3rd.  Please note that summer school only operates Monday - Thursday.

    • Summer Mobile Sites: Our program is absorbing several sites that were served by the Athens Housing Authority last year, and we will continue to partner with Action Ministries to deliver meals to our students living in communities around town.  To find out if meals will be delivered to a location near you, please click here.  All the information regarding our mobile meal routes can be found on "The Skinny on Summer Meals" webpage.

    • Open Lunch Sites: Eight schools will be open to the public for lunch starting on Monday, June 3rd.  Clarke Central High, Clarke Middle, Howard B. Stroud, & Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary will be operating Monday - Friday.  Barnett Shoals Elementary, Barrow Elementary, Coile Middle, & Cedar Shoals will be operating Monday - Thursday.  Children up to age 18 are able to come to these locations to get a free lunch during the summer.  Open sites will begin serving lunch to the public on Monday, June 3rd, and we will offer these meals between 11:00am - 12:30pm.  Adults can eat too.  The cost of an adult meal is $3.75.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • My student is allergic to peanuts, so what can my student have when PBJs are on the summer menu?

    Posted by:

This is a great question! During the school year, we usually have an entree that does not contain peanuts, which allows your student to make a safe and healthy choice at lunch.  The summer menu is more streamlined because we are operating with fewer team members, so if you want your student to receive a meal accommodation, then you need to submit one to your child's summer school site.  The form that is used by the school nutrition program can be found here: https://www.clarke.k12.ga.us/Page/2227

  • In the past, you have opened sites to the public where children under 18 can eat for free?

    Posted by:

That is correct, and we will continue to provide open sites this summer as well.  Clarke Central High, Clarke Middle, Howard B. Stroud Elementary, and Oglethorpe Avenue Elementary will all be open sites this summer.  Children under the age of 18 can come have lunch at one of these sites for free.  Doors will open at 11:00pm.  Cafeterias are air-conditioned, so eating lunch with us is a great way to beat the heat.  We love it when parents or sitters eat too.  Adult meals are $3.75.

  • My child is attending summer school, do I need to pack lunch?

    Posted by:

You are always welcome to send meals with your students when they come to school; however, just like during the normal academic year, we will be providing both breakfast and lunch meals to students enrolled in summer programs at our schools.  The menu is simpler than during the school year, but your student will still have a choice of entree, fruit and vegetable sides as well as milk each day.
