Helpful Tips for Parents

  • How much will my student's meal cost?

    Posted by:

All students enrolled in Clarke County School District eat at no cost!  This means, it will not cost you a dime for them to eat breakfast, lunch, and after-school snack at school!  Remember, your student only gets one meal per meal service (breakfast, lunch, and after-school snack) at no cost.

  • What if I want to eat with my student and bring their sibling, can we eat for free too?

    Posted by:

Only the children who are enrolled in the school district get to eat for free because we are only reimbursed for meals served to students.  However, we love it when parents and siblings join us for meals!  The cost for breakfast is $2.50, and lunch is $4.50.  It is still the best deal in town!  Where else can you eat out for less than $5.00?  Please be sure to bring cash.  We do not accept checks from visitors.  And, we are unable to take credit cards at this time.

  • What if my student wants to buy a milk, extra entree, or second meal?

    Posted by:

Students are allowed to purchase additional food items at breakfast and lunch.  It is important that your student either have money on their account or in their pocket in order to pay for these items at the time they are purchased.  A la carte purchases should not be charged to a student account.

Parents of high school students need to monitor the meal account balances of their students.  Sometimes, high school students grab extra items and meals, and they don't realize the cashier is charging these items to their student meal account.  To find out what your student's meal account balance is, you can visit MyPaymentsPlus.com.  You will need your student's CCSD ID number in order to look them up.  For assistance, please call your school's school nutrition manager.

It makes everyone's life easier when student meal account balances maintain positive balances.

  • How do I find out what is being served in my child's school cafeteria?

    Posted by:

Each month's menu is posted on our website about a week before the month begins.  You can download them from the menu page, and then post them in a designated location at your home.

Discuss the menu with your child to coach them on what to select for breakfast and/or lunch before you drop them off at school or before they get on the bus each day.

  • Who should I contact with questions/concerns about the school nutrition program?

    Posted by:

For information about menu items, contact the school nutrition manager, who can discuss everything from meal preparation methods to waiting time in line.

For more detailed questions, the nutrition manager may refer you to the nutrition director who oversees cafeteria operations, procurement, and menu planning for the entire school district.

Don't forget to ask your child's teacher about classroom policies regarding food rewards and items served during classroom activities or snack time.

  • My child came home today saying the cashier made them pick up a fruit or a vegetable. Why is that?

    Posted by:

In order for your student's breakfast and lunch to be considered reimbursable, they must select a fruit at breakfast and a fruit or vegetable at lunch.  Often, our students do not have money on their accounts or in their pockets to pay for a la carte items, so cashiers encourage them to select a menu item from the serving line to ensure their meal meets reimbursable meal guidelines.

  • When I went to school, they only offered white milk. Why do you offer flavored milk?

    Posted by:

We believe that offering a variety of options in our meal program is important, and we apply that belief to milk choices too.  Milk is not only nutrient-dense, but the nutrients that one gets from milk are also particulary important for our school-age children.  We work closely with our milk vendor to purchase the most low-sugar versions of flavored milk available, but if a child will only drink chocolate milk, then we believe it is important to offer chocolate, so that your child gets a good dose of protein, calcium, and vitamin D with their school meal.

For more detailed information regarding flavored milk in schools, please visit, The Dairy Alliance's page on flavored milk.  Click here.

  • How do teacher's pay for their meals?

    Posted by:

We ask CCSD employees to create accounts on MyPaymentsPlus, so that they will have money on their account when they choose to eat with us.  CCSD employees will need to pay online when they need to add money to their meal account.  Please note that there is no longer a payment processing fee on MyPaymentsPlus, so if you add $20.00 to your account, all you pay is $20.00! (Yay!!)  If you have any questions, please contact our School Nutrition office at 706.354.1138.

  • Students eat for free, why don't teachers eat for free?

    Posted by:

We understand that it is hard for everyone right now, and it would be wonderful if we could provide meals for our teachers and staff at no cost. Unfortunately, that is not possible.  Our program is a federally-funded child nutrition program, and we only receive reimbursement for meals served to students (children).  However, we strive to keep the cost of our adult meals low.  Where else in town can you eat lunch for $4.50 and breakfast for $2.50?

At Chik-Fil-A, a chicken sandwich for lunch costs $4.95, and a chicken biscuit meal for breakfast costs $6.89.

At McDonalds, a McCrispy meal for lunch costs at least $11.69, and a sausage egg biscuit for breakfast costs $5.36.

At Wendy's, a Dave's single for lunch costs $5.49, and if you turn it into a combo meal, the price becomes $9.09.

A quick search of popular fast food chains confirms that we are the BEST DEAL IN TOWN!

  • What do I get with an adult meal purchase?

    Posted by:

BREAKFAST MEAL:  Adults can select one breakfast entrée.  Most sites offer at least two entrée choices each morning.  With this entrée, an adult can select one serving of each of our side items that day, usually 4 oz. 100% juice, 1/2 cup of fresh or canned fruit, and 8 oz. of unflavored or flavored (low-fat and/or fat-free) milk.  To provide an example, a teacher could select a chicken biscuit, apple juice, banana, and 8 oz. milk, and the price of this meal would be $2.50.

LUNCH MEAL: Just like at breakfast, adults select one lunch entrée. Most sites have at least two-three entrée choices each day. With this entrée*, an adult can select one serving of each of our side items offered that day.  Depending on the level of the school, the number of side items* ranges from 4-6 options along with 8 oz. of unflavored or flavored (low-fat and/or fat-free) milk.  Some schools provide tea.  If tea is an option, an adult may select this as their beverage choice.   To provide an example, a teacher could select a slice of pizza, steamed fresh broccoli, garden salad, grapes, cranberries, and 8 oz. milk and/or tea, and the price of this meal would be $4.50.

*Portion sizes are adjusted for adults who work at elementary and middle school sites.  However, the portion size offered at these locations is not permitted to exceed the portion size served to high school students and staff.

Please note: When an adult buys a meal, the condiments that pair with the meal are complimentary; however, if a teacher pops in to grab a couple cups of dressing to go with their salad brought from home, their account will be charged to cover the costs of these items.  Remember, we are only charging $4.50/adult meal, so we cannot afford to give away condiments to adults who are not participating in our program.
