The Clarke County School District recognizes the importance of a strong local media presence and recognizes the critical role in the community that the media plays in reporting news and information about district policies, programs, services, and events, as well as the accomplishments and achievements of students and staff. Led by the Department of Public Relations and Communications, the district is committed to cultivating and maintaining good working relationships with our local media outlets by responding to inquiries promptly and providing accurate information in a timely manner.
To request to be placed on the media contact email list, email Scott Thompson, Communications Specialist.

Requests for Media Coverage/Interviews
The Department of Public Relations and Communications is the first point of contact for interview/story requests and will assist in the coordination of interviews of staff and/or students. Inquiries must first be directed to Dr. Cyndee Perdue Moore, Executive Director of Public Relations and Communications, and then Scott Thompson, Communications Specialist, in the event that the matter is time-sensitive and Dr. Moore is unavailable.
CCSD student journalists will follow this protocol when reaching out to district-level staff. All other interviews will be arranged under the guidelines set forth by their publication's faculty advisor.

Media Visits to School Property
Media looking to access schools during instructional hours must first notify the Department of Public Relations and Communications prior to their visit, and the department will confirm their visit with the school. Dr. Cyndee Perdue Moore, Executive Director of Public Relations and Communications, is the first point of contact and will provide the reporter with further instructions. When members of the media arrive for an approved visit, they must sign in at the main office and follow all visitor procedures when on school property. If media members have ID badges from their employer or a Georgia Press Association card, they should carry those with them at all times while they are on campus.
A representative from the Department of Public Relations and Communications and/or a school administrator/staff member will escort the media member while they are on campus. Interviewing, photography, or filming of any students must be approved by the Department of Public Relations and Communications or the school administration.
-
Photography, Filming, and Interviewing of Students
In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Clarke County School District has a process in place for determining students who can and cannot be photographed, filmed, or interviewed. No photography, filming, or interviewing of a student in a classroom or on school grounds during instructional hours is allowed without permission from the Department of Public Relations and Communications or school administration.
Media are allowed to take photographs and video and interview students without parental consent during school events that are open to the public, such as sporting events, musical concerts, theatre performances, etc.
-
Board of Education and Other Public Meetings
Members of the media are invited to attend all open meetings of the Board of Education and other boards and committees conducting district/school business and have the right to record and/or videotape those meetings. To avoid disruption, media members are asked not to approach board members, district staff, guest speakers/presenters, or members of the general audience inside the meeting room during the meeting. In-person interviews of district staff should be conducted after the meeting, and interview requests should first be made with Dr. Cyndee Perdue Moore, Executive Director of Public Relations and Communications.
-
Emergency/Crisis Communications
CCSD has an established Emergency Operations and School Safety Plan, which includes district procedures for emergency communications and providing media with timely, accurate, and appropriate information during emergency situations. All media inquiries during emergencies on school grounds should be directed to Dr. Cyndee Perdue Moore, Executive Director of Public Relations. The Department of Public Relations and Communications will work in coordination with the incident commander, superintendent, principal/building leader, and any other responding agencies in releasing information about emergency/crisis situations to the public.
